Thanks to the many teachers who've helped mold a child
It's Teacher Appreciation Week and I feel compelled to pause and say thank you. Thank you to the many teachers who have helped to not only educate my daughter but also shepherd her through the many trials and challenges of youth.
Thank you, Ms Payton, for giving PB a strong foundation on which to build her early education. She still talks of one day growing up to teach kindergarten with you at Carleston. Ms Olvera, thank you for finding the books that inspired her to read when I could not. Thank you, Mrs. Pool, for knowing when to push her just a little bit farther than she felt she needed to go. Mrs. Bredehoeft, thank you for challenging her just when she was ready to fly. Mrs. Felts, I so appreciate your gentle handling of first love and Mrs. Curtis, thanks for being there not only as a teacher, but as a watchful loving friend. Mrs. Myles, Mrs. Lenamond, and Mrs. Heinlein thank you for kindly, but firmly ushering PB into the next great adventure of her life. I also appreciate the many contributions of art, music, and P.E. teachers who have inspired, encouraged, and even prodded my little girl into being the budding creative young spirit that she is. Librarians, nurses, counselors, and paraprofessionals ' all of you have helped to educate my child ' not only in the 3 Rs, but also in character and values. So for all of this, I say thank you to all of you.
Although I have my doubts about administrative practices at PISD, I have never doubted the teachers. I have seen, first hand, how many of you put in long hours on Friday evenings getting ready for the next week. I have marveled at the personal notes sent to my child before school started, the thank you cards for her small gifts, the encouragement, the love and the guidance that you have so generously given. This week is for you, Teachers. When the actions of some parents and administrators make you doubt your choice of career, know that there are many who appreciate your efforts, and congratulate yourself on a job well done. Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! Again, Thank You All!
One more thing. School Board elections take place this weekend. Make your voice heard ' VOTE.
