Pearland athletes in action: Women's basketball

The following women's basketball players, all with local high school ties, have scheduled action this week:

Kiara Freeman, Panola College
High school: Pearland High School
This week: Saturday, Feb. 23, at Angelina College
About Freeman: Freeman, a 5-foot-5 freshman for Panola College, is a 2012 graduate of Pearland High School. She is a Pearland native.

Ebony Ford, Northwestern State University
Position: Forward
High school: Pearland High School
This week: Saturday, Feb. 23, versus University of New Orleans
About Ford: Ford is a redshirt freshman forward for Northwestern State University. She is a 2011 graduate of Pearland High School, where she was a first team All-District player as a senior and second team honoree as a junior. In her senior season, she averaged 15 points and seven boards a game along with an average of two assists, three steals and two blocked shots. She also was recognized as an All-American Scholar and was a member of both the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. The psychology major from Pearland is the daughter of Dennis and Arlene Ford.

Julia Bennett, University of San Diego
Position: Guard
High School: Pearland High School
This week: Saturday, Feb. 23, versus University of San Francisco
About Bennett: Bennett is a junior guard for the University of San Diego. She is a 2009 graduate of Pearland High School where she was named Defensive and Offensive Player of the Year in 2008. She averaged 18 points as a senior to go along with 3.2 assists, four rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. As a senior she was named to the All-Greater Houston team and was named to the Academic All-State team. She carried a 3.7 GPA into USD. Bennett is from Pearland and is the daughter of Willie and Joyce Bennett.
