Pearland ranks first among Texas cities in retail growth
For the third consecutive year, Pearland has been ranked the fastest growing of Texas' 50 largest retail markets according to the Texas Retail Survey.
The survey ranks cities based on annual retail sales growth rates over the previous five years, according to a Pearland Economic Development Corporation press release. Pearland's growth rate during that time was 9.2 percent.
"Pearland has seen a tremendous amount of retail growth in recent years, and these numbers are evidence of this growth," said Matt Buchanan, president of the Pearland Economic Development Corporation, in the press release. "We have had outstanding developers construct multiple shopping centers that have been successful in making Pearland a regional shopping destination."
Other regional retail centers ranked in the survey include Houston at number 10, Sugar Land and Pasadena tied at number 27, Conroe at 35, and Baytown at 36.
Contributing to Pearland's top ranking are retail centers, including Pearland Town Center, Silverlake Village, the Crossing at 518, and Shadow Creek Ranch Town Center. In addition, Sam's Club opened in 2012 in the Reserve at Shadow Creek and Burlington Coat Factory also opened for business.
Established in 1995, the Pearland Economic Development Corporation promotes, assists and enhances the economic development activities and quality of life within Pearland.
