Pearland athletes in action: Women's basketball
The following women's basketball players, both with Pearland high school ties, have scheduled action this week:
Julia Bennett, University of San Diego
Position: Guard
High school: Pearland High
This week: Saturday, Jan. 19, versus Gonzaga University
About Bennett: Bennett is a junior guard for the University of San Diego. She is a 2009 graduate of Pearland High School, where she was named Defensive and Offensive Player of the year in 2008. She averaged 18 points as a senior to go along with 3.2 assists, four rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. As a senior she was named to the All-Greater Houston team and was named to the academic all-state team. She carried a 3.7 GPA into USD. Bennett is from Pearland and is the daughter of Willie and Joyce Bennett.
Ebony Ford, Northwestern State University
Position: Forward
High school: Pearland High
This week: Saturday, Jan. 19, versus Southeastern Louisiana University
About Ford: Ford is a redshirt freshman forward for Northwestern State University. She is a 2011 graduate of Pearland High School, where she was a first team all-district player as a senior and second team honoree as a junior. In her senior season, she averaged 15 points and seven boards a game along with an average of two assists, three steals and two blocked shots. She also was recognized as an All-American Scholar and was a member of both the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. The psychology major from Pearland is the daughter of Dennis and Arlene Ford.
