Friendswood ISD screening children for special education
Friendswood Independent School District is conducting screenings for preschool children ages 3 through 5 that are suspected of having a disability.
Parents who suspect their child has a disability should schedule a screening by calling 281-482-0687.
Students who are older and are also suspected of having a disability should be screened as well. Parents can contact the child's school counselor or 281-482-0687.
Home-schooled students who live within the district or those who attend a private school within Friendswood ISD are also eligible for screenings.
Evaluations may qualify students for educational services provided by the district.
Friendswood ISD Child Find also provides services for students who speak English as a second language, students who are suspected of being gifted, having dyslexia or having a disability under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Students must live within the FISD boundaries to be eligible for evaluation.
For more information on Child Find, contact FISD Executive Director of Special Programs Karen Deshotel at 281-482-0687 or Assistant Superintendent Lynn Hobratschk at 281-482-1267.
