Matthew and Michael Laitkep, of Boy Scout Troop 1248 of the Sam Houston Council, recently earned their Eagle Scout designation.
For his Eagle Scout project, Matthew compiled 225 care packages containing hygiene items for homeless junior high and high school students in the Alvin Independent School District, according to a press release. A total of 435 volunteer hours went into the fundraising and buying of materials, making and delivering the packages to eight different campuses.
Michael targeted the 14 elementary schools in Alvin ISD to help improve the lives of homeless elementary students. In addition to hygiene items, Michael’s 225 care packages for his Eagle project included small toys to help families in need, according to a release.
The Friendswood resident will received the honor Sunday, Jan. 27 at Fort Bend Christian Academy in Sugar Land.
The Boy Scouts of America's Eagle Scout designation is the organization's highest honor. Only about five percent of all registered Boy Scouts earn the rank of Eagle each year.
