Passmore Elementary awarded playground equipment through essay contest

Passmore Elementary School was awarded new playground equipment Friday, Oct. 12 through an essay contest presented by Landscape Structures.

The contest gave participating schools an opportunity to describe how they would benefit from an inclusive playground for their special needs students. Passmore was one of five campuses to win the contest, and was the only school in Texas to win the contest. According to a press release, the school will receive $15,000 worth of playground equipment.

"We are just elated to have the opportunity to provide playground equipment for our campus that will have something for every student," said Licensed Specialist in School Psychology Jen Taylor, who wrote the essay with assistant principal Renea Rives, in the release.

The Passmore PTO, faculty and staff are currently holding an ongoing fundraiser to replace all of the playground equipment at the school. The school expects to have the new equipment installed by August 2013.

Passmore Elementary is at 600 KostĀ Road, Alvin.
