HS football preview: Manvel vs. North Shore
Manvel will try to improve to 2-0 in the 2012 High School football season at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7 against unbeaten North Shore.
The Mavericks and coach Kirk Martin defeated Spring 35-21 in their opener on Aug. 31. Quarterback Shane McCarley was 15-for-31 for 329 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions, and also ran for a score. Richard Rose rushed for 71 yards and a score on 15 carries. Carlos Thompson made five receptions for 121 yards and a 63-yard touchdown, and Austin Bennett had three catches for 83 yards, including a 39-yard gain.
After the North Shore matchup, Manvel is on the road for a pair of 7 p.m. contests, on Friday, Sept. 14 at Bellaire, and on Thursday, Sept. 27 versus Pasadena Memorial, before returning home for a 7 p.m. contest on Friday, Oct. 5 with Alvin.
North Shore and coach David Aymond are coming off a 47-7 non-conference rout at home of Clear Springs on Aug. 31. The Mustangs are back home for a 7 p.m. contest on Friday, Sept. 14 against Cinco Ranch, followed by a two-game road trip. They will play at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22 at Madison, and then at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28 against Channelview.
