Fort Bend Kempner gunning for Pearland
The Fort Bend Kempner High School football team will be gunning for its second consecutive victory at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7 against unbeaten Pearland.
The Cougars and coach Darrin Andrus were victorious in their opening game of the season, 13-10 over Seven Lakes on Aug. 31 in a defensive struggle.
After the Pearland matchup, Sugar Land is home at 7 p.m. as well for its next two contests, Friday, Sept. 21 against Westside, and Thursday, Sept. 27 versus Fort Bend Bush. The Cougars then head back on the road for a 6 p.m. game Saturday, Oct. 6 at Fort Bend Elkins.
The Pearland Oilers and coach Tony Heath continued to build on last season's success, dominating Madison 33-3 in their opener Aug. 31. Quarterback Jacob Garner completed 11-of-14 passes for 184 yards with three touchdowns, a 38-yarder to receiver Andrew Mapps, and a pair to Zach Boegler. Pearland outgained Madison 365-138.
Following the Fort Bend Kempner matchup, the Oilers come home for 7 p.m. games Friday, Sept. 14 with Memorial and Friday, Sept. 28 against Pasadena, before going back on the road for a 6 p.m. showdown Thursday, Oct. 4 at Sam Rayburn.
