Pearland Girl Scout earns Gold Award
Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council member and Pearland high school student Kimberly Misher has earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest national honor awarded by the organization. To earn the honor, Misher hosted a book drive, organized a local school library and organized a reading and writing workshop for local children. Approximately 40 children participated in Misher's reading and writing workshop, according to the release. Following the workshop, she held a reception where the children's writings were showcased. Misher said her enthusiasm for reading and writing gave her the idea for the project. "I learned that young kids learn more when you take time out to show them why learning is important," she said in the release. "I chose this project because I have a love for reading and writing, and I love children." Misher has been a Girl Scout for nine years, according to the press release. She is currently a senior at Glenda Dawson High School. For more information, visit gssjc.org or call 1-800-392-4340.
