Pearland ISD students win top awards at state and international meets

Pearland Independent School District students were recently recognized at a school board meeting for their success at the Future Problem Solving Program state and international competitions that took place this spring.

Future Problem Solvers is an academic competition featuring more than 250,000 student participants from across the world.

Eight top awards were won in total by Pearland ISD teams and individuals during the state bowl.

At the Future Problem Solvers International Conference, Lucia Zhan from Dawson High School won first place in the International Alternate Middle Division. Shannon Wu, also from Dawson High, won first place in the International Alternate Senior Division. Akshaya Annapragada from Pearland Junior High West won second place in the International Community Problem Solving Intermediate Division.

In the Future Problem Solvers State Bowl, the winners were as follows:
Zhan won first place in the State Presentation of Action Plan Middle Division.
Annapragada was the Individual Grand Champion in the State Community Problem Solving Intermediate Division.
Rima Patel from Pearland High School was the Grand Champion State Community Problem Solving Senior Individual.
Shivam Dave, also from Pearland High, won first place in the State Individual Competition Senior Division.
Chaitanya Lavu from Sablatura Middle School won second place in the State Individual Competition Junior Division.
Karun Salvady, Nakul Rao, Pujarini Maiti and Sohan Gadkari, all from Dawson High, won third place in the Intermediate Booklet Competition and first place in the Presentation of Action Plan Intermediate Division.
Brandon Hall, Irene Cofie, Matthew Zhao and Sephra Thomas from Dawson High won third place in the Senior Booklet Competition and second place in the Presentation of Action Plan Senior Division.
Annie Zhang from Dawson High won first place in the State Presentation of Action Plan.

Coaches who helped these teams and individuals to victory included Alicia Lauve, Mark Dunk, Larry Berger, Ruth Dinhobl and Judy Sisk.
