Thelma Ley Anderson Family YMCA offers swimming lessons for all ages

Swimming lessons for children ages 36 months and older are offered at the Thelma Ley Anderson Family YMCA this summer.

Parent and child classes are offered for ages 36 months up to 6 years and teach basic water skills through songs and games. Once children have adjusted to the water, they may participate in the beginner Pike classes to learn kicking, floating and safety in the pool. Polliwog beginner classes are offered for beginners who have not taken YMCA swim lesson to learn basic water skills.

The Eel intermediate beginner course expands on skills and is for children who can swim 5 feet with their faces in the water without the aid of flotation devices. Once children can swim 15 feet in this manner, they may enroll in the Ray/Starfish advance beginner course to learn more stroke skills, endurance and how to tread water.

Advanced beginner Guppy, intermediate Minnow and Fish/Flying Fish for advanced swimmers are offered for swimmers who have not taken YMCA swim lessons in the past year. A swim placement test is required for these classes.
