Pearland community supports troops
Pet Hub Animal Rescue director Nancy Kozanecki and the Pearland community are working to cover our troops overseas.
"Even though our primary focus is helping the four-legged members of the family, I knew that many people in Pearland would be willing to help if asked," Kozanecki said in a press release. "Pet Hub had an overwhelming response to Operation Paperback in January. The Pet Hub board felt that Operation Twin Sheets would also be a successful endeavour, even with the tight time frame we were on."
The goal of Operation Twin Sheets was to collect twin bed sheets and other bedding to be used by troops in combat zones.
Organizations that helped in the bedding drive included Claws and Paws, the Drink Station, Lenny's Sub Shop, Pearland Animal Hospital, Pearland Animal Health Center, Starbucks, Shadow Creek Veterinary Clinic and Westside Veterinary Hospital.
Eight shipments of bedding, including eight bed sets, 60 flat and fitted sheets and numerous pillow cases and blankets, were shipped to troops stationed in Afghanistan.
"Anything that we can do for our community and our troops we are here to support. Our veterinarian community saw this as an opportunity to support our troops and thank them for all that they do for us," said Mike Doleski, business manager of Westside Veterinary Hospital.
Pet Hub Animal Rescue saves and fosters homeless animals until permanent homes are found, promotes spay/neuter programs and helps return lost pets to their owners.
