Alvin superintendent, others raise funds for scholarships

The 13th annual Men Who Cook event raised more than $9,000 for scholarships and financial aid for organizations that support women.

Alvin Independent School District Superintendent Fred Brent and Jeff Burke, director of human resources, teamed up with local men recently to raise funds for Soroptimist of Alvin by serving up Brent's award-winning bean dip, according to a press release.

The teamwork of these men helped raised funds for scholarships for women and for local organizations that help women and children during times of need.

"This was a wonderful opportunity for us to socialize with members of our community and support a great cause as the same time," Brent said in the press release.
