Manvel High School teacher to fly with NASA
A Manvel High School teacher is slated to take part in a microgravity experience.
AP Chemistry teacher Tonya York has been selected to participate in the "Microgravity Experiences" at the Johnson Space Center this month. The experience includes online professional development, a chance to work with a NASA mentor and a reduced-gravity flight.
The reduced-gravity flight uses NASA technology to perform an experiment while aboard a specially designed aircraft. The airplane simulates microgravity by taking repeated dips and climbs over the Gulf of Mexico.
Manvel High's team designed an experiment that explains what happens on the space station when everything must be recycled to generate breathable oxygen.
"I am extremely excited to be a part of this opportunity and just hope that no one falls to motion sickness during the roller coaster experience," York said in a press release.
Manvel High School is located at 19601 Highway 6.
