Alvin Community College program helps students enter workplace
The Alvin Community College Continuing Education and Workforce Development Department is offering Mentoring for Success, a new program designed to help students get back into the workplace.
The program's first student, Tambra Anderson, recently started an internship at the Alvin Manvel Area Chamber of Commerce. Anderson previously worked in hotel and hospitality management and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency, according to a press release.
Unemployed for several years, Anderson recently sought the help of the department's workforce specialist, Joy Weiner, who began development of the program this year.
Anderson will upgrade her computer and customer service skills through the program, according to the press release.
"This [program] helps people like Tambra have a visibility in the community," Weiner said in the press release. "Someone's going to see her worth and offer her a job."
Alvin Community College is located at 3110 Mustang Road in Alvin.
