Alvin ISD Education Foundation to host annual turtle race
The Alvin ISD Education Foundation will host its annual turtle race on Feb. 11.
Adopted turtles will race at Mustang Bayou on the walkway bridge along the Tom Blakeney Hike and Bike Trail. The turtles will then race down the bayou to the finish line near the Adoue Street bridge.
The adopter of the winning turtle will win a trip valued at $1,500 sponsored by David and Tracy Vela. the second-place winner wins a trip valued at $1,000 sponsored by TDEC, Inc. and Elizabeth Nelson, CPA; and the third-place winner wins a trip valued at $500 sponsored by Ron Carter Automotive Dealerships. All trips are to the destination of the winner's choice.
Community members, parents, students and staff are all encouraged to adopt turtles for $5. All funds will be used to provide scholarships for graduating seniors and grants for teachers.
Adoption forms are available at all Alvin ISD campuses; the Alvin ISD Administration Building, 2790 W. Highway 6; the Alvin-Manvel Area Chamber of Commerce, 105 W. Willis St.; the YMCA of Alvin, 3201 S. Highway 35; TDEC Inc., 911 S. Gordon St.; and RDL Energy Services, 2101 Highway 35 Bypass N., #105.
