Alvin ISD director of public information to retire
Alvin Independent School District announced the retirement of Shirley Brothers, director of public information, after 40 years of service.
Brothers began her career in 1971 as a special education teacher. She taught for 14 years before becoming Alvin ISD's first director of public information.
During her career, Brothers was awarded the Longfellow Elementary Teacher of the Year Award, the Alvin ISD District Teacher of the Year Award, the Soroptimists of Alvin Woman of Distinction Award and the Texas School Public Relations Association Professional Achievement Award. She was twice named the Alvin Manvel Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year.
A reception in her honor was held on Jan. 25. Her last day of official work will be Jan. 31.
