'Bridge to Nowhere' gets new lease on life

The 71-year-old "Bridge to Nowhere" across the Brazos River at Brazoria got a new lease on life as well as dedication to a much different purpose than when it was originally built.

Brazoria County Commissioners voted unanimously to assume ownership of the bridge and to preserve it in accordance with the Texas Historic Bridge Program.

Drainage district race taking shape

Reducing costs, improving communications and maintaining facilities are some major concerns of the three candidates vying for the Position 4 seat on Brazoria County Drainage District No. 4.

The Republican candidates are Tommy Coler, 59, of Pearland, a crane rental operator; Rick King, 43, of Manvel, a project manager for an information technology firm; and Harrison Rogers, 63, of Brookside Village, a retired engineer.

No Democratic candidates have filed in the race.

Some residents of Area 6 area near Pearland Regional Airport on Airfield Lane, questioned the city’s motive in taking over that area.
