    Facing a $4.4 million deficit, Pearland school trustees unanimously approved a $129.8 million budget that includes a 1 percent districtwide pay raise for all employees. Board President Glenn Garrison expects the deficit to be erased by the end of the school year because of budget cutbacks over the last year.

    The Pearland community had its first opportunity to witness the Jewish tradition of Upsherin on Aug. 8.

    The Chabad Pearland Jewish Center shared the inaugural haircutting ceremony of Mendel Zaklikofsky on Mendel’s third birthday.

    All Jewish members of the community were invited to attend the celebration, which took place at 11608 Spill Creek Dr., in Pearland.
