Pearland hasn’t had any trouble getting to the playoffs, the problem was winning once there, but that changed with a 57-56 bi-district victory against North Shore last week.
The win snapped a four-game playoff losing streak dating back to the 2003-04 season when the Oilers defeated MacArthur 50-45 for what had been their last postseason triumph, and then lost to Aldine.
The recent win was also sweet revenge for coach Steve Buckelew’s Oilers, who were edged by North Shore 42-41 in the first round last season.
Pearland also dropped playoff decisions to Fort Bend Marshall in 2007 and to Elkins in 2008.
