This is no time for "compassion fatigue" toward Haiti

To be honest, I wasn’t planning on revisiting this subject, but then I heard something that took my breath away.

I was sitting in class, minding my own business, when a girl next to me said, “Ugh! What’s up with all this stuff about Haiti! Okay, there was an earthquake, we get it. No one really cares! They need to get over themselves! The government is already helping them!”

And the sad part is, I’m not even exaggerating. When I heard her, despite the irritation welling up inside me for her crass remarks, my heart went out to the Haitians. So many people had no idea what they were experiencing, and they didn’t think that their support even mattered when so many organizations were already aiding them. What difference do we make? they wonder, while not too far from the U.S., a nation is devastated and its people are in chaos.

So what am I getting to? A call for help. Haiti needs assistance, and even after the earthquake, there are many deaths occurring due to lack of medicine, proper treatment, and disease.

The only thing that most of the people have left…is hope. And that hope will arrive. From us.

Please consider one of the following ways to help:

    1. Donate money of any amount to Haiti Earthquake Relief through We Care Act.*
    2. Donate to the Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund or Red Cross.
    3. Text the word "QUAKE" to 20222 to donate $10 to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund,
charged to your cell phone bill.
    4. Please let other people know that the Haitian victims need everyone’s help.
    5. For parents: please encourage your children to take actions to help these victims.

*We Care Act is a charity organization that my siblings and I put together to help the disaster victims. Your donation is tax-deductible and pleases mail your check (payable to We Care Act) to We Care Act, 2722 Garden Falls Dr., Manvel, TX 77578. For more information about We Care Act, please click
