The new bridge on Old Alvin Road at Mary's Creek has opened, allowing traffic to once again travel that road between FM 518 and John Lizer Road.
That means that when pupils return to Alexander Middle School after the Thanksgiving break, southbound parents and buses will be able to bring them on Old Alvin instead of taking a detour to Texas 35 and Swensen.
Built through a Texas Department of Transportation project, the concrete bridge replaced a wooden one that was demolished this summer.
The bridge opening follows the opening earlier this month of a rebuilt segment of John Lizer Road between Pearland Parkway and Old Alvin Road. That opening enabled westbound motorists to travel John Lizer and turn north on Old Alvin to Alexander.
