Pearland police have no leads in last week's theft of a bronze statue from Centennial Park, a police department spokesman said.
A park employee told police that he noticed the statue missing from the park at 3200 McLean Road on Monday, Nov. 16. Investigators said the theft occurred between noon on Nov. 12 and 9:20 a.m. Nov. 16.
"The (Pearland) Parks Department placed the statue out at the park, primarly to commememorate the park as a place for children to gather and play," said Lt. Onesimo Lopez of the Pearland Police Department. "Someone stole that statue, depriving the the community of enjoying that."
The statue is of a small girl sitting down with her knees bent in front of her, and her arms behind her back with her palms on the ground as if she's holding herself up, Lopez said.
The statute was affixed to a stone in front of the water park near the park's parking lot, he said. He estimated the value of the 45-pound bronze statue at $3,000.
"It's pretty heavy so I imagine it had to go out on a trailer or truck or something," Lopez said.
Anyone with knowledge about the theft is urged to call Lt. Lopez at 281-652-1167.

PPD
The PPD can't even control the speeds in this city so it is no wonder they didn't notice a missing statue from a popular city park for 4 days! Detectives, this one is for free...look on Craigslist.
Most likely stolen for scrap
