Grant to buy recycling bins at Nolan Ryan campus

Keep Pearland Beautiful is set to receive a $3,000 award grant from H-E-B and Keep Texas Beautiful through KTB's second annual Green Bag Grants, a program that awards money to Texas communities to support voluntary recycling.

The grant will be presented Friday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 a.m. at the Pearland Chamber of Commerce Breakfast at BJ Restaurant, 11200 Broadway.

The money will be put toward purchasing recycling bins for Nolan Ryan Junior High School, the city's newest school. Also, each teacher there will be given KPB environmental materials and information for use in the classrooms.

The Green Bag Grants award a total of $50,000 to six regions in Texas. Individual grants range from $1,500 to $3,000.

The money for the program, which was started after Earth Day 2008, comes from the sales of H-E-B's reusable grocery bags. The grocer donated 5 cents from each purchase to the program.
