Ephiphany Lutheran devotes month to feeding hungry

Epiphany Lutheran Church, which has campuses in Pearland and Missouri City, is focusing this month on feeding the hungry.

“We wanted to do some kind of service event we could do across the churches,” church member Laurie Milligan said. “We have so much to give back.”

With Thanksgiving falling this month, November seemed to be a fitting time for addressing hunger, Milligan said. “We were looking for a way to help people out and help the people of our church bond together.”

This effort, an Epiphany Servant event, is inspired by two verses from the Bible, Matthew 25:35a and 40 (NIV).

35a: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat…”

40: “The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’”

Church members earlier this month collected food for the Christian Helping Hands food pantry and will help sort the food Nov. 17. Members also have been invited to be part of the Epiphany team that helps on 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesdays at the CHH facility. Financial donations will be collected for CHH during the Nov. 22 and 29 services.

Epiphany’s campaign also is reaching out to the University of Houston International Student Ministry. Supporters are included to provide supplies for meals, including napkins, paper plates, plastic utensils and cans of powdered tea or lemonade and to raise money for the organization.
