An assisted living and memory care facility has opened on Cullen Parkway and will host an open house on Nov. 19.
Colonial Oaks in Pearland, 2940 Cullen Parkway (FM 865), will stage its open house from 4-7 p.m.
The facility, which received its first residents on Sept. 11, is licensed for 108 beds. It expects to have 80-90 residents, marketing director Sarah Guest said.
Services provided for residents include medication supervision, health monitoring and social programs.
Colonial Oaks has a secured certified Alzheimer's unit.
Rooms feature kitchenettes, and the center has a movie theater, library and restaurant-style service for meals.
Those who wish to attend the open house are asked to RSVP. The event will include tours.
``What really sets us a part is our philosphy of care,'' Guest said. ``You can't cookie-cut services to residents. It's an individual approach to each one of our residents. We help them get engaged back in living again.''
Colonial Oaks arranges for intergenerational activities in which residents and teenagers learn from each other, she said.
There is demand for the facility in Pearland, Guest said. Some Pearland residents want to move their parents here to be closer to them. Also, some residents from the Country Place retirement community who needed to find an assisted-living setting decided to live at Colonial Oaks so they could remain in the Pearland area, Guest said.
